Building the blog

I’ll be posting less often and building the blog over the next few months. I have done several hundred hours of work on this blog since I have returned home from the hospital. I have been posting like crazy while I have been sick, and am still working mostly from home, but will be posting only once a week or so for a while. I need to spend more time writing for other blogs and taking steps to grow my audience and mailing list if this blog is ever going to have a sizable readership. I just want you to know I’m still here and the posts I do put up will be of the highest possible quality. It will be tough for me to see the stats counter fall on my blog in between posts, but I know I have to do this.

For those subscribed to my email list, I will send out an extra post or two per month, so if you’d like to hear more from me, feel free to subscribe. In addition to exclusive content, you’ll also get my free 79 page e-book The Spiritual Life, and a chapter of my book Living Truthfully sometime in April, also available exclusively to people on the mail list.

As always, I could use your help. If you know of websites where you can imagine my work fitting in nicely, please contact me and pass it on. And as usual, please remember to forward on anything I do that is valuable that you think could benefit others. Thanks. I’ll be in touch.

Find me on another blog

man on blogThe good people over at Depression’s Collateral Damage blog have used the content of one of my older posts in a post of their own. Check out their post, quoting my post. Of course your comments here on this blog, over on theirs, or both, are always welcome. The work to de-stigmatize suicide, depression, and all mental illness, goes on.

Categories of posts have been moved

In order to make this blog as sharp and focused as possible, I have stopped posting on in the categories of MS, MS Status Updates, Tech, and Pop Culture. All posts in that category from here on will be on my personal blog at You can still find the older posts on those topics by searching for them using the search box at the top right of this page.

This blog will feature posts only in the categories of Church/Spiritual and Mental Health/Counseling, as well as occasional updates on the status of the blog itself (outages, performance issues, etc.), and tools I use for creating and promoting the blog. Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks to you

I now have nearly 400 posts on this blog and have been writing away on it for about six years. This blog has received over 69,000 page views in the last three years alone! I recently began using new e-list software making it easier to subscribe to get my posts in your email, and sending out emails to subscribers that are much clearer and more visually pleasing. As you may know, this past week I also started a new blog, where I will put all of my content that is not related to Counseling/Mental Health or Church/Spirituality. Thanks for everything you have done to help me get where I am today.

This helped you a lot

It is normal for bloggers to constantly tweak things like this. We write hoping people will read, and we are rabid stats-trackers. The one post that has brought the most traffic to this blog, ever, is called Things we lost (and found) in the fire, prt. 1, the first in a seven-part series about my daughter Anna’s suicide attempt in the summer of 2010. I can see why that would get traffic, how that series could help you.

How did this help you?

My new blog

I have started a new blog. I’m sorry for any inconvenience it causes. I have to boil this blog down to just mental health/counseling and church/spirituality issues, or Google is never going to get me higher in its rankings. I’m too diverse right now. Accordingly, from now on all my posts that are not on the topics of mental health/counseling and church/spirituality will be at the new blog, which is at That will include all posts about politics, technology, my MS updates and anything else related to MS, posts on pop culture (movies, music, etc.), etc. Occasionally I will post something on this blog under the category “Miscellany,” but it will relate in some way to my main topics.

Simplicity and free are the name of the game on the new blog. For now, you can find it at, and I will have something up soon to allow you to get email notifications. Again, if you wish to get future updates on the status of my MS recover, they will all be there from now on.
